Weekend Boat Fun

Well, we decided to take a weekend off from our continued cleaning and actually enjoy the park.  It was great to see a lot of people out there with their kids and dogs Saturday morning enjoying Lucas Park.

When I was Luke's age my Great Uncle Fred Hartman built a boat from scratch and used to take me out to the lake to sail it around.  I kept the boat and named Luke after him (Lukas Hartman Martello) because I thought he was a great inspiration in my life.  He taught me how to hunt, fish, make things from scratch, etc.  A wonderful time when I was a kid.  I thought it would be great to take Luke out and float the ol' boat around.

So to that end he had a great time and enjoyed it thoroughly.  I got a lot of positive comments on the boat, and a lot of people were really surprised that it wasn't a kit, but that it was hand built from scratch by an old carpenter.

Another "Luke's Big City Weekend"

Luke and I had another great weekend.  He came over to his "City House" where we went swimming upstairs, made bagels and fresh orange juice, and then went to the Arch.

Here are a few pictures that I took this weekend.

Luke at the City Museum

In case you didn't know, St. Louis has a little treasure called the City Museum a block and a half away from our home.  It was a beautiful day so we went and played at the City Museum, both inside and outside.  I would encourage everyone to come downtown and see this place.  It's absolutely awesome.  After playing in the magnificent sculptures we went upstairs to their art center and painted.

Here are some pictures I took today.

Luke at taste of St. Louis

Had another great weekend with Lukas... He wanted a "stamp". So he picked it at the taste of St. Louis.  Somehow, he also wanted to see a bunch of Harleys as he said, "They're pretty".

I'll let the viewer decide for themselves...

Luke goes up to the top of the Arch

So when Amanda and Stacy visited, we didn't have enough time to go up into the Arch as I had to feed Luke some lunch.  When he came this past weekend he really wanted to go to the Arch.  As I was driving from his "county house" he saw the Arch and he said, "Hi Arch!"  and "I go see Arch".  He really wanted to go again, so on Saturday he and I went up together into the Arch.  They have a small mock-up of the elevator that takes you up.  I was worried he might be claustrophobic, so I had him get into it.  He thought it was actually going to go up into it.  Since it was only a 4 minute trip, I bought some tickets for us and after visiting the museum we took the tram up to the top.  He pointed out his "city house" (with a little help) and he had a really great time.  We took the tram up with 3 other people and he was laughing with them and of course flirting with the girls that were in there.  My son is an incredible person as he is so very loving and caring about others.  We had a professional picture taken that I'm putting in his scrapbook and as soon as I can get my scanner hooked back up, I'll post the picture of us together.  The Arch is a great place to take kids and the National Park Service does a great job with kids, putting on puppet shows, and helping single dads get through security.  Luke "thanked" the Park Ranger (with a little prompting) and I'm hoping to take him to additional parks soon.  Today, we woke up and walked Daisy, and 2 blocks south, the City of St. Louis was having a "Fire Engine Parade".  There must have been close to 40 fire trucks.  The longer I live downtown, the happier I am as there is just SO MUCH TO DO within walking distance.  Luke loves his "Starbucks" as on Saturday, we walked down to our Starbucks and he had a chocolate milk and iced lemon loaf.  Luke thanked the baristas (specifically Mr. Mario) and we walked on down to the Arch.  We had another awesome weekend.  Sunday we woke up and he crawled into bed with me and we watched cartoons and then had some breakfast.  We then walked Daisy, saw fire trucks, and then went swimming up on the roof of Luke's city house.  Luke and I had a great time, and I can't wait to see him again!

Here's some more pictures of our weekend, enjoy!!!

Luke at the City Museuem 8/26

Had another awesome day with my son Lukas.  We went to the city museuem (1 1/2 blocks away from his "city house") and played in the ball pit, we chased each other through the structures where you can climb into, and climbed into the old airplanes where he could fly an airplane.  He and I both had a really great time.

Luke's Big City Weekend

I had Luke this weekend at his "City House" which he seems to love.  I love it, Daisy loves it, and Luke loves it.  It is a block away from the Central St. Louis Library, across the street from "Lucas Park Grille", and across the street from our new "coffee shop".  He and I can walk anywhere in the city and find cool things to do.  The city museum is a block and a half away from the house which he loved 3 weeks ago when we went.  This weekend we went to the library where we read books for a couple of hours and they even let us "check out toys" for him to play with back at the "City House".  After reading, we walked back, got some lunch, and headed back to the library as they had a singer there.  He got up and danced and played with the other kids.  Although in the video, he's just sitting there, it took a bit for him to get up and starting dancing around.  After the music, 1 block south of the library was the St. Louis Hispanic festival where we had an absolute blast!  Luke got to go on some inflatible trampolines, a slide, ride a pony, hit a pinata (and eat an atomic fireball), and then dance to the traditional music and dancers that they had.  He also got to ride a train through the festival.  This was just Saturday.  On Sunday, we woke up, went upstairs and went swimming in the pool and then we shared an apple on the roof deck.  We went downstairs and ate at the "Side Bar" restaurant next door to the house.  He had 3/4 of a foot long hotdog (that was 3/4" in diameter).  Milk to drink, along with water and lemon slices and then we headed back upstairs for some well needed "rest time".  Well we wound up blowing bubbles and watching "Happy feet".  He's really been into "Happy feet" and at the library he saw a magazine about penguins and he sat on my lap and had me read to him about the different penguins.  I can't convey in words how much of a joy it is to have him around as he's truly a very special kid and a total love.  At the pool on Sunday, he started talking to everyone around him as he's extremely social.  Of course, he usually talks to girls in bikinis but hey, he's my son!

Anyway enjoy the pictures I'll be posting.

Cheers,

-Andy

Luke's 3rd Birthday

On Saturday, we started celebrating Luke's 3rd birthday with a trip to his first theatre movie.  We went to see the new Pixar film Ratatouille.  It's about a rat that wants to be the best chef in France.  It was a cute movie, Luke got his first taste of movie theatre popcorn, and he enjoyed it as he was very excited.  On Sunday we went to Toys 'R' Us and he got a birthday crown and a balloon.  He went around the store playing with a whole variety of toys.  Monday we are going to have his birthday cake, which I baked on Saturday to look like a car wash.  I kept looking all over the place for a Subaru Wrx-Sti (blue) like my car for the cake, but I didn't find one.  I found a white one (matchbox) and I wound up painting it blue and putting it on his cake.  I'll post pictures of it soon.

Anyway, here are some pictures from this weekend.  Enjoy!
